The railway sign «Switch indicator» is used in manual switches to indicate in which direction the pointer is moved, there are illuminated and unilluminated ones.
The white side of an illuminated sign or the edge of an unilluminated sign means that the pointer has been moved in a straight direction, and the yellow side of an illuminated sign or the side of an unilluminated sign indicates that the pointer has been moved to a side track. Pointers are not placed in automatic switches; the direction in which such a switch is located is determined by the position of the tongues. In addition, from the signal of a traffic light, it can be determined that one or more switches in the train route are set to a side track. Depending on this, the driver selects the speed mode.
Non-illuminated pointers indicate the following:
the switch is set along a straight railway track; the arrow-shaped indicator is directed with an edge along the railway track
the switch is set to the lateral railway track; the arrow-shaped pointer is directed towards the lateral railway track
